In conjunction with Plan C Birmingham and Angry Workers’ World we will be showing a new documentary (Ditching The Fear..) about about logistic workers’ struggles in Italy. The 70min film portrays the struggle of mainly migrant workers against the harsh labour regime of companies like TNT or IKEA. Following the screening we’ll have a discussion on organising workers in this sector. The event is the second of three events touching key issues which influenced our members to set up Plan C Birmingham.
These struggles emerged in 2008 and have since then, not only won better conditions, but also put workers’ self-organisation back on the wider political agenda. In the film Workers’ militants of the rank-and-file union Si Cobas talk about blockades of logistic hubs and their alliances with activists from the social centres.
