This French drama film directed by Costa-Gavras, deals with ruthless ambition, power struggle, greed and deception in the international world of finance. It shows how power and the lust for power corrupts. But whereas a liberal critique of banking might focus on the flaws and failings of individuals, or particular financial products or methods, Costa-Gavras makes it very clear that it is the logic of capital itself, and people’s willingness to become proxies of that logic which is the socially destructive element.
