Members of the IWW in North America have started a drive to raise funds for the establishment of a memorial to the IWW organiser, journalist, poet and activist William Covington Hall.
William Covington “Covami” Hall was born 1871 in Woodville, Mississippi and died 21 Feb.1952 in New Orleans, but remains largely unknown in his native States of Louisiana and Texas. Members of the IWW seek to redress this injustice by raising funds to establish a memorial in his honour where he is buried at the Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans – as no mention nor marker commemorating him has ever been placed.
The management of the cemetery has already granted permission for the marker to be laid and in order to make this a reality a GoFundMe page has been set up:- already having raised at the time of writing $1486 of the $2683 target! Lets help get this over the line and ensure that the memory of Covington Hall’s contributions to the IWW and the labour movement are rightly acknowledged!
The fundraisers GoFundMe page can be found here.
