Housekeeping hotel workers based in the Getafe area of Madrid recently unionised themselves as a union section of the CNT (Confederación Nacional del Trabajo). Over the past number of months they have been subjected to a series of clashes as their relations with management within the Exe Hotel chain deteriorated which included a number of sabotages against the workers and their daily duties as workers such as untidying bedrooms or dirtying the carpets that ended up with workers being dismissed back in June 2018.

At present Las Kellys are battling a court trial to force Exe Hotel to renew their work contracts rather than to be employed again by outsourced companies. They also reclaim the right to be unionised, and the re-admission of all dismissed workers.

“We are not going to stop fighting as this injustice must not be allowed to continue. Hopefully all the housekeeping hotel workers can get a united to call for a well-coordinated general strike, as hotels cannot function without us’’.

The Industrial Workers of the World extend our international solidarity with the ‘Las Kellys’ workers and call for their “immediate re-instatement. It is vital that every worker has the right to decide on what union they feel best represents their interests as workers. It is important that workers in times of industrial action equally receive as much international support as we can give. Our message, just as our class is international: an injury to one is an injury to all”
