The Pan-African Worker’s Association (PAWA) recently won major concessions as well as financial compensation for our member who came to the UK on a Health and Care Visa. Our member had paid £5,000 to an agent who promised her milk and honey in the UK.
However, after arriving in the UK, the company which generated a COS for her visa application refused to take her on board arguing that she did not have a driving licence.
The company then threatened to cancel her visa because “she didn’t meet their requirements!”
Following our initial correspondence, the employer requested to settle the matter informally.
In the circumstances, we negotiated favourable terms for our member who will now also be starting work shortly!
We are happy to have supported our member. We won because our comrade was committed to the fight and was prepared to take all the necessary steps including direct action.
PAWA to the Workers!
