This one is going out to Luis Mayol (minister of agriculture), Maria Ignacia Benitez (environment minister) & Jaime Manalich (minister of health).

We the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) are angered to learn of the lack of action to ensure the welfare of 500,000 pigs at a factory farm in Freirina, Chile.
Local residents have already complained about health issues from farming smells and polluted water which is potentially damaging the environment due to pig waste leaking into water courses, and now that the farm Workers have abandoned the plant, leaving all 500,000 pigs unattended with no access to food or water this can only get worse.
We insist you act at once to stop the negative impact on local communities and surviving animals by ensuring the pigs have food and water and are treated in a humane way.
We also insist on a full independent inquiry into this situation to establish how it could have arisen and how it can be avoided in the future.
We look forward to hearing from you soon with news of a positive outcome for the local communities, the environment and the pigs involved.
Yours Sincerely,
Andy Smith, International Solidarity Liaison Officer
