London IWW

London General Membership Branch is an active and growing branch of the IWW. The main sectors represented in and around London are education, retail/restaurants and construction, although we welcome all workers, students and unemployed to join. Our education workers' committee also publishes a termly freesheet, workingclassroom. Contact us if you would like to be posted a copy, or a bundle to distribute to friends and colleagues.

Organising in London

If you wish to organise at your workplace, don't hesitate to contact us. We have experienced, committed volunteers who will help you build a union presence on the job through innovative direct action and sound legal knowledge on disciplinary and grievance issues. We are also able to support workers in the surrounding towns outside London, such as Croydon, Watford and Brentwood. With the IWW you can be sure of sound advice, solid support and a friendly community of activists. We pride ourselves on autonomy, militancy and solidarity.

Monthly Meetings

London IWW meets every second Thursday of the month from 7 to 9 PM, usually in one of the meeting rooms of the Brunei Gallery at SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies), Thornhaugh Street, Russel Square, London WC1H0XG; closest tube station: Russell Square (click here for map location please contact us at london [at] iww [dot] org [dot] uk for meeting venue details). This meeting place is disability friendly. If you have any special needs please contact us and we will do our utmost to meet your requirements. If you have children, you are welcome to bring them to the meeting.

In Memoriam Terry Liddle, 1948 – 2012

It is with great sadness that we received the news of the passing of Fellow Worker Terry Liddle (1948-2012) on 15 November 2012, at the age of 64. Terry was an untiring and dedicated long-time member of the wider movement and his passing is a sad loss to our cause. We in the IWW European Regional Administration wish to express our sadness at the loss of Fellow Worker Liddle, and extend our condolences and sympathies to Terry's family, friends, and comrades.

IWW Victory! John Lewis Cleaners Win Pay Rise

Monday 19 Novermber 2012 -- The industrial Workers of the World are proud to announce their victory in their latest John Lewis cleaners' campaign. On Friday 16 November, the IWW-unionised John Lewis cleaning staff employed by contractor Integrated Cleaning Management won a 9% pay rise as a result of their campaign.

London IWW Members Picket in Solidarity with Victimised Pret A Manger Staff

 

Members of London IWW General Membership Branch participated in a picket today in front of the headquarters of Pret A Manger at London Victoria, braving the cold together with other activists to demand the reinstatement of a Pret A Manger worker unfairly suspended for unionising his workplace.

BMA IWW Cleaners Demand the London Living Wage

On Friday 12th October cleaners at BMA House did a second Awareness Raising Action outside their prestigious place of work in Tavistock Square. They had already braved the cold autumn wind a week earlier, on Tuesday 2nd October, to raise awareness about their plight and demands.
