Support Antonio! Reinstate Cleaner Sacked for Union Organising

Over Christmas, Antonio, a cleaner employed by cleaning contractor ISS at the premises of huge international institution of finance capitalism Bank of America Merrill Lynch, was sacked a few months after managers saw Antonio distributing IWW union joining forms, they hauled him into a disciplinary meeting without his union rep. Four days later (on Christmas Eve!) they sent Antonio a letter confirming he’d been sacked – they gave him seven days (until New Years Eve!) to appeal.

Demonstration at Friends House (London)

27/08/2015 12:00

On 3rd August we broke the news that Friends House management have broken their commitment to negotiate. Despite agreeing to talks about all three of our cases, managers are instead now insisting on excluding a specific one of us, in what is clearly an attempt to divide-and-rule.

Ethically and justice-driven Quaker employer in dispute with 3 sacked zero-hour workers

This Thursday afternoon 26th February, 3 sacked zero-hour workers together with their trade union - the Industrial Workers of the World - will hold their sixth peaceful demonstration outside Friends House, opposite Euston train station, the London headquarters of the Religious Society of Friends famously known as the Quaker Church. They will be demanding their immediate reinstatement, but most of all to have their concerns about the misuse of zero-hour contracts by the management team heard by the wider Quaker community.

Support sacked zero-hours staff at Friends House London

3 of the hospitality workers at Friends House employed on zero-hour contracts have lost their jobs. This is at Friends House London, the head office of British Quakers where – despite the organisation’s reputation as a ‘good employer’ – senior managers responded to objections to the use of zero-hour contracts by getting rid of the three remaining workers employed on them!
