SUPPORT BAHAR MUSTAFA - The 2015 annual IWW Conference strongly approved an emergency motion proposed by London IWW to stand in solidarity with Bahar Mustafa, a Goldsmiths students' union officer who has faced persecution in the mainstream media and death threats from the right wing for organising a meeting for BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) women and non-binary people. The IWW is currently leading on a campaign to get YHA workers paid a living wage.
This campaign was first started by workers at one of the YHA hostels, and it soon ballooned in to something a lot bigger. Support came from organsations and individuals up and down the country, as well as from other YHA workers.
However the IWW become involved when the messages for help become too much. Since January we've been trying to organise and support workers in the YHA as much as possible. This, of course, has been completely discreet.
Ethically and justice-driven Quaker employer in dispute with 3 sacked zero-hour workers
This Thursday afternoon 26th February, 3 sacked zero-hour workers together with their trade union - the Industrial Workers of the World - will hold their sixth peaceful demonstration outside Friends House, opposite Euston train station, the London headquarters of the Religious Society of Friends famously known as the Quaker Church. They will be demanding their immediate reinstatement, but most of all to have their concerns about the misuse of zero-hour contracts by the management team heard by the wider Quaker community.Support sacked zero-hours staff at Friends House London
3 of the hospitality workers at Friends House employed on zero-hour contracts have lost their jobs.
