first IWW BIROC Women’s Conference POSTPONED!!!
Due to a lack of registrations for the Women's Conference, the organisers have had no choice but to postpone the event.
Make no mistake, this conference is very important + will still go ahead. We are thinking about holding it around the time of International Women's Day 2010 (March 8th) instead, perhaps combined with a social. We have planned an enjoyable day with inspiring speakers, so when the new date is announced, please put it into your diary as a priority!
Hosted by IU 610 (health + social care workers), on Saturday 7th November 2009.
Venue The Warehouse, [click on link for map] 54-57 Allison Street, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 5TH. 11am – 4.30pm.
The venue is very close to New Street + Moor Street train stations, + Digbeth coach station, + on-street parking is available. The meeting room is on the ground floor.
Why did we call this event?
We’ve noticed that women overall tend to take a back seat in the running of the union. It doesn’t have to + shouldn’t be this way... We want this training day to be about discussing the reasons why this is + thinking about potential solutions. We will also spend some time talking about inspirational female activists from the past + present, + the day will include short film clips + activities. The conference will be relaxed + hopefully enjoyable for all.
Above all it will be about finding our own ways to overcome the things that challenge us!
Snacks + light refreshments will be provided + there is also a veggie/vegan caf in the same building which FWs can use. There will be an hour lunch break + there are plenty of fast food places close by in the city centre.
