Work in horticulture and floriculture can often be lonely, hard and low-paid. Workers in this sector are facing similar problems to those in agriculture, with an increasingly casualised workforce with an increasingly uncertain future. Workers of different nationalities are pitted against one another by employers in a desperate effort to ensure they do not stand up and demand what they are worth. The IWW aims to change all this by empowering and supporting workers to organise at work. Whether the problems concern pay, non-payment of wages, poor health and safety, long hours, short breaks, or just aggressive and ruthless management, membership of the IWW will ensure that a friendly and supportive community of fellow workers will stand with you.

All workers in the floricultural and horticultural sectors are welcome to join the IWW, whether they be pickers, gardeners, packers, nursery workers, garden centre workers or office staff. Self-employed and freelancers, such as gardeners, may also usually join, provided that they do not employ anyone else. We are also ideally suited to organising among and supporting agency workers, because we are flexible and member-run.

The IWW recognises that workers and employers have no chance of working in 'partnership', and that the only way to change our lives is to bring about a state of affairs where workers are calling the shots. The only way to do this is to organise with fellow workers for your own interests as workers. A lone voice is weak, but together we are strong. Join up today, and build your union.
